New Production Kitchen: $5.8 million

The RHH's $5.8 million kitchen at Cambridge is delivering improved patient food services and better working conditions.

The RHH Food Services unit produces over one million meals a year and has the capacity to increase this fourfold.

It produces 13 distinct menus catering for varying dietary needs and cultural requirements and can produce larger food batches.

The new kitchen was part of the State-funded Phase 1 redevelopment program and replaced the RHH's 60-year-old facility.

The more advanced equipment that includes combi ovens, 400-litre mixer kettles and large tumble chillers, now provide greater cooking controls for more consistent, high-quality meals.

The new kitchen includes a temperature controlled preparation area for salads and sandwiches and increased refrigerated storage capacity.
