Energy efficient, natural gas will heat K-Block with Tas Gas works scheduled this weekend.

RHH Redevelopment Project Director, Ben Moloney, advised that the Managing Contractor and TasGas would close a section of Campbell Street to allow for the installation.

“A deep excavation will need to be cut through the middle of the road to connect the site to natural gas.

“To ensure the safety of drivers, Campbell Street between Liverpool and Collins Streets, will be closed to normal traffic from 7 pm on Friday, 7 September until 6 pm on Sunday, 9 September 2018,” Mr Moloney said.

The supply of natural gas is one of the energy efficiency strategies in place for K-Block.

“Natural gas is part of the suite of energy initiatives in store for K-Block, such as the high performing building façade that optimises natural light and reduces energy use, a heat recovery system, and double glazing of external windows,” Mr Moloney said.

“The natural gas installation is part of $30 million of site infrastructure works that will service  K-Block, upgrade ageing services on campus and future-proof the hospital.

Mr Moloney said that the Managing Contractor had sought the necessary Council approvals for the temporary road closure and was communicating with neighbours and key stakeholders about the works.

“Drivers are encouraged to take alternative routes over the weekend if they are travelling between the northern and southern suburbs to avoid delays,” Mr Moloney said.

Mr Moloney said that along with traffic changes, some noisy works were anticipated.

“Some of the equipment that will be used will be noisy and early starts have been planned for the weekend.

“On behalf of the project, I would like to thank our neighbours, patients and hospital staff for their patience and support during the build,’ Mr Moloney said.

Mr Moloney said that emergency services and Metro buses would have access to the area on Friday night while the site was set up but it would be closed to all traffic from 5 am on Saturday.
