Medical specialties on the move up

As part of the $689 million Royal Hobart Hospital Redevelopment, the medical specialties ward has moved to new accommodation on level 7, A-Block.

The new 20-bed ward allows for more privacy because it is configured in single and two bed rooms.

The four bed rooms in the former ward on 1B South, are a thing of the past.

The refurbished ward is also better for patients as it has more natural light and improved outlook.

It includes the acute stroke unit, gastroenterology, dermatology, rheumatology, renal medicine and endocrinology.

The RHH Redevelopment has worked closely with nursing management and staff to plan the move.

The ward was opened early for scheduled sessions with staff so they could familiarise themselves with the new layout and equipment.

Information about the move was made available to patients and their families.

Tasmanian contractors who worked on the job included - Hansen Yuncken, Fairbrother Facilities Management, Reardon Demolition, Specialised Plaster and Construction, Squires Plumbing, Lills ICDC Cleaning, Contact Group, R&TL Tattnel, Jacksons Security, Bentley House Commercial Interiors, Carpet Company, Weatherfoil, and Honeywell.

The move is part of the decanting strategy to vacate B-Block for demolition.
