Women’s Health Outpatient Clinic Opens

THO-South's Women's Health Outpatient Clinic was officially opened on Monday, 11 August 2014.

The Women's Health Outpatient Clinic on level eight joins a number of outpatient clinics colocated in the Wellington Centre, Argyle Street.

The new clinic provides improved facilities for pregnant women, breast feeding support, gynaecology, colposcopy and gynaecology oncology services.

It also includes a new Feto-Maternal Unit which provides specialised care for pregnant women with complex needs for example multiple pregnancies and comorbid health issues. This means that more women with complex pregnancies can stay at home longer, reducing the likelihood of hospital admissions by providing intensive outpatient care and monitoring.

During 2013-14, over 20 000 appointments were attended and around 80 women had outpatient appointments each day and this is anticipated to increase with the new Feto-Maternal Unit.

The Women's Health Outpatient Clinic provides much needed additional space which is contributing to improved health care to women and their families with more consultation rooms, more patient privacy and an attractive environment.

The new clinic was redeveloped at a capital cost of around $1.7 million with Tim Penny Architecture and Interiors and Voss Construction Pty Ltd.

The Women's Health Outpatient Clinic is the final redeveloped service to be delivered under Phase 1 of the $586 million RHH Redevelopment project.

The Rescue Taskforce was commissioned to investigate and report to Government on how to best proceed with the redevelopment of the RHH. During the investigation the RHH Redevelopment project has been placed in care and maintenance. The redevelopment of the Women's Health Outpatient Clinic is part of the care and maintenance works.
